COURSE PHILOSOPHY

“وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ ۚ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ” “The believing men and women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong.” — Quran 9:71

This verse is the foundation of Islamic women’s leadership:

Men AND women are BOTH commanded to lead
Men AND women are BOTH responsible for community
Men AND women are BOTH empowered to act

Islam gave women leadership rights 1,400 years before the modern world:

Right to own property (7th century CE)
Right to vote in bay’ah (allegiance)
Right to education and scholarship
Right to lead in their sphere of influence
Right to have their voice heard in public affairs
