Marketing is Permitted in Islam

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The truthful, trustworthy merchant is with the Prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs.”

This shows that:

  • Trading and promoting your business is honourable
  • The KEY is: truthfulness in what you claim
  • No exaggeration or false promises

Prohibited Marketing Practices:

Najsh — Creating fake bidding/demand to inflate prices ❌ Ghish — Deception or hiding defects ❌ Talaqi Rukban — Intercepting suppliers to buy cheap then sell expensive ❌ False advertising — Claiming qualities that don’t exist ❌ Emotional manipulation — Using fear or pressure tactics

Permitted and Encouraged:

✅ Honestly describing your product’s benefits ✅ Showing real customer testimonials ✅ Offering genuine discounts and promotions ✅ Demonstrating your product ✅ Word of mouth through excellent service
